Performing Arts Department Philosophy:
The performing arts (music and theater) develop and promote life skills that increase creativity and discipline. These skills include:
Self-confidence
Teamwork and collaboration
Public speaking
Problem solving
Improvisation
Our classes are successful for students of all ability levels, from potential collegiate music and theater majors to those who are just at the beginning of their journey. The performing arts are a critical piece in the education of the whole child and a much-needed release for many students caught up in the daily grind of academic work.
We strongly believe that it is no coincidence that a very high percentage of Springfield's valedictorians and salutatorians have been members of the band, chorus, or theater -- more often, all three!
